MOVING MEGA BLOG PT 2
new neighborhood, a back-to-the-city bender, picking up the pieces, running into microinfluencers, and getting tatted
It has come to my attention that literally everyone is making in/out lists. Even (or especially?) the tiktok girls. And that is ok. There’s definitely a thinkpiece to be written about how we (the chronically online fashion girlies) went from blogging in the 2010s to curating and trend forecasting in the 2020s. I’m not the one who will be writing it, but if anyone finds a good take, do let me know.
I made the cardinal mistake of putting the first in/out list at the very end of my last post. From now on I’ll try to include it straight off the bat. Reminder that these are my PERSONAL OPINIONES, please do not come for me.
IN
Mary janes. Preferably Mansur Gavriel, Carel Paris, or Repetto.
Fur coats and vests. My favorite fur coat and most treasured item in my closet is from Charlotte Simone.
brunette dye jobs and lowlights
the indie sleazebag aesthetic
Monogamy. specifically in the context of settling down with men who stuck around from #whiteboysummer. think: the jack harlow chet hanks angus cloud role model jesse rutherford genre of man.
Stay-up tights. bonus points if worn underneath pleated skirts
hair bows
minimalist, classic jewelry
graphic tees
GORPcore is back. I’ve seen so much fleece, North face nuptse puffers, Salomon shoes, and cargo pants around Soho lately and I’m not mad about it. The Aime Leon Dore x New Balance 993 collection gets at this. On second glance, it kinda reminds me of the Outdoor Voices women’s hiking apparel from a couple years back, but the bougie ALD menswear version is so much cuter.
OUT
crop tops (the odd brandy melville or aritzia tank in the comfort of one’s own home is fine. but not as part of a going out outfit.) I like laini ozark’s recent video about creative going-out fits for the colder months that aren’t just crop tops + jeans.
TV shows revolving around the sex lives of women in their early 20s. Make it stop
Balayage
Blonde dye jobs
avant-basic furniture + home decor. If you’re trying to make your home look like the Wing reincarnated, I question your sanity, and taste
gentrification buildings. it’s soooo much chicer to live in a character-filled walk-up with no amenities than it is to live in an airtight box in the sky
y2k-esque jewelry—garish chunky rings, beaded necklaces, etc. we need to let them rest for at least a year
Fall has finally landed in new york and I have been freeeezing my ass off, especially since I have to take Miley outside approximately every 5 seconds. Recently I haven’t been going out as often, after a chaotic couple months of catching up with people and having plans constantly. My go-to plan is making it out to approximately one cozy restaurant or bar (too cold to bar hop), or convincing friends to come to me, and drinking way too much red wine and hot chocolate (in the PM, cold brew in the AM) than is probably healthy. c’est la vie.
I’ve also been entertaining myself by experimenting with my new cheapo digital camera. I was inspired by megsuperstarprincess, who’s been bringing back the digital, indie sleaze aesthetic of the early-mid 2000s. It works out well for me because I’m too impatient to wait for film pics, and developing film also adds up $$$wise.
Here’s my very first batch of digitals, from a recent late night walk with Miley.
Now, for the woefully out-of-date moving content…
Sweaty september welcome
My first month back was a blurrr. The 95 degree heat plus humidity immediately jolted me back to nyc reality, which was brutal in combination with getting used to my fifth floor walk-up.
The week I moved back happened to be NYFW, and I enjoyed witnessing all of the fashion interns, PAs, and microinfluencers scurrying around Soho (spotted: Sydney Carlson, Olivia O’brien, and drumaq on prince street). I also ran into one of my favorite photographers, Amber Asaly and her boyfriend and her dog, who were in town from LA. They were sooo sweet and we chatted for a good 10 minutes while Miley played with her adorable dog Rupurt. Also, Amber was so encouraging and helpful when I confessed my creative direction aspirations. :’) a 10/10 new york encounter for my first week back.
I can’t get over how freaking cute my new neighborhood is. Definitely feels like the most “me” place i’ve lived in NYC. Pics are obviously from summertime.
Tragically, the week I moved back was Julia’s last week before leaving the city. However, she was kind enough to make time to hang with me and show me around my new area, which she is v familiar with. She even compiled a google map of all her favorite spots! not gonna link because a lot of them are top secret, but enjoy the following pics of her absolutely slaying on a rooftop:
At the end of September, I got my first tattoo. I met Jonny from Macondo Brooklyn one night at Ray’s when he was doing a pop-up event there. He was fully booked for the night but I went to his studio’s $50 flash day a couple weeks later. Highly highly recommend them, everyone was so nice even though I was a nervous scaredy cat about getting tatted for the first time.
october: the crash
I forgot how willing literally everyone in new york is to drink at every opportunity. as a result, I went on an accidental bender just by saying yes to too many plans and stretching myself thin, which is verry unlike me! after a year of mostly wholesome solitude in CA, my tolerance for hard alc was at an all-time low. as a result, i often found myself out and about far later than anticipated, and would repeat the same mistake several work nights in a row, until collapsing from exhaustion and taking a couple days to collect myself and regroup.
After one such night of going out last-minute to mother’s ruin and then Ray’s and then waking up the next morning somewhere in Fidi, I realized I’d lost the sash to my Charlotte Simone coat, which made me want to cry!! those coats are limited edition drops! I was devastated and it felt like a sign to chill out a bit, so I have.
Also, I have basically zero fit pics from this time period because my closet is honestly pretty sparse after mostly buying and wearing sweatpants for a year and getting sick of my old clothes. I also didn’t have a full length mirror for a good three months, which made choosing outfits pretty difficult. but here is a mediocre fit I wore to an Avenue A dive:
My dining table after one such episode:
I don’t remember when this pic was taken but looks like the aftermath of a wine night(?) and making penne alla vodka:
Other miscellaneous updates: I joined a rec soccer team, halloween was a let-down, and dating in this city sucks but everyone knows that.
and that concludes blog 2!
